Kadyn’s Rabbit

I grew up with a younger sister always tagging along and wanting to take part in whatever I was doing. Read Mercer Mayer’s book “Me Too”, and you get the picture. So it was no surprise when Kadyn, the younger sister of Kyla (see Kyla’s Pig), wanted a personalized poster made of her birth year animal, too.

I was thrilled to learn that Kadyn was born the year of the rabbit, as I have a soft spot for bunnies. But really, who doesn’t? My first inclination was to make a white rabbit with red and pink eyes, like the one I used to have as a pet. But, after a little experimenting with the background, I opted for brown. I didn’t want the eye colour to fight with the red of the poppies. The inclusion of Morning Glories was a last minute remedy to bridge the two clusters of flowers together. And just like Kyla’s piece, the name was given a loose handwritten treatment.

And if the tables were turned, and I was your younger sister, I would probably do the same.

Together, we cut and pasted and created these technicolor collaged landscapes.✂️🌈☀️ I was searching through boxes of old stuff in preparation for last week’s “Unlocking Your Artistic Voice” workshop and came across this page I had doodled back in high school.
