Tending to Time

It’s been a very good growing season thanks to my fellow green thumb neighbour, Dawn. Together we’ve weeded, dug, mulched, tilled, pruned, planted and watered this common space into an oasis of colour and texture; a place to spend time in.

This year I learned how to intermingle flowers with vegetables and the art of container planting. One thing I still need to improve on, however, is plant spacing. Let’s just say things got a little crowded at one point. And if there’s such a thing as growing too much kale, I was definitely guilty of it. I planted a dark bluish breed called Dinosaur kale and, boy, does it ever shoot up high above the other plants! The good thing is that it’s hardy enough to stand frost, so I can enjoy it well into the fall.

My favourite addition to the garden has been the little ceramic bird bath I purchased from a Burlington nursery. Since it didn’t come with a stand I had to suspend it from a couple of sturdy branches using twine. More than a bird bath though, it has played the role of a floating drinking bowl for the many squirrels who call my backyard home. I noticed quite a few flying insects stopping to take a sip as well. It’s been a pretty hot and humid summer so I was glad to help the little guys out!

Together, we cut and pasted and created these technicolor collaged landscapes.✂️🌈☀️ I was searching through boxes of old stuff in preparation for last week’s “Unlocking Your Artistic Voice” workshop and came across this page I had doodled back in high school. Going to keep it on my bulletin board from now on. #anaisnin #anaisninquote Getting his greens. 🌱#catgrass My #motherofmillions is dropping her “babies” off left and right. Does anyone want some?
